The Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation is part of the security forces and is designed to ensure the safety of individuals, society, and the state against external threats.
The Service conducts intelligence operations in order to:
- provide the President of the Russian Federation, the Federal Assembly, and the Government with intelligence information necessary for adopting decisions in the political, economic, military-strategic, scientific-technological and environmental fields;
- provide conditions facilitating the successful implementation of the policy of the Russian Federation in the sphere of security;
- assist the country's economic development and its scientific and technological progress, and ensure the security of the Russian Federation.
