Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin described cooperation in the energy industry, nuclear power and several high-tech sectors as the most important issues in current relations between Russia and Kazakhstan. Prime Ministers Putin and Massimov also discussed integration in the post-Soviet space.

Important steps have been made to build a system of institutions and instruments for innovations and modernisation. But it should be recognised that very few projects are truly innovative.
